For auction is a new YSI 44006 precision thermistor new in it's original tube package.  Thermistors are one of the most accurate devices available for measuring temperature.  Because of its small bead size this thermistor has a low time constant so it can respond rapidly to changing temperature.  We actually purchased these to use in vacuum sensors.  We passed an excitation current through the bead putting it into self-heating mode so it ran at a certain temperature in air at atmospheric pressure.  As the air was evacuated from the chamber the sensor temperature would increase as the air dissipating the heat was removed.  Using this technique we could measure vacuum down to 5 microns.  Of course the sensor can be used to measure temperature or used as a temperature compensation device.  Undoubtedly there are many more uses for these amazing devices! The specs listed in the datasheet that accompanies this sensor are as follows: Interchangeability: +/_0.2C from 0 to 70C Max Operating Temperature: 150C (300F) Time constant, Max: 1 sec. in well stirred oil, 10 seconds in still air. Dissipation Constant 8 mW/C in well-stirred oil, 1 mW/C in still air The bead leangth is 0.15" (3.8 mm) Max.  The diameter is 0.95" (2.4 mm) Max.  The wire leads are 3" (76 mm) Min in length.  Gauge is 32 AWG tinned solid copper.
