Offered: Vintage 10 inch Letterpress Composing stick Dates from mid 1800's to very early 1900's. This stick is known as a "Yankee Job Stick" it gets its name from the way the knee is attached to the bed of the stick. This particular stick does not have a manufactures mark of any kind on the stick or knee. The stick does not have any past owners markings or engraving. Bed and knee do not have any dents or damage both are straight and true. Most composing sticks this age have holes drilled in the bed so that they can hang them on a hook in the shop as well as have past owners engraved names or initials. This stick is in surprisingly very good condition as most sticks really get banged up over the years. The knee is a solid piece of machined metal as is the thumb screw for locking the knee in place. As is the case on most 19th century composing sticks the bed does not have pica graduations engraved in the bed. The knee can be locked in at any measure the compositor desires. This is a great piece of printing history that can be used as it was designed of displayed as a part of the living history of printing.    This item will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail which includes insurance coverage for full value as well as USPS Tracking.
