The old guy I got this from said it came from a mine near Durango, CO and that it had something to do with getting air (or maybe water) down into the mine shaft. It is made of cast iron with some brass parts inside and is very heavy . . . over 17 pounds. It is about a foot long and 5" in diameter. The two threaded ends and the plug turn by hand and there is still a bit of old red paint showing. Raised letters and numbers are sharp.
