This item is a Vibralign V-180 2 channel shaft-to-shaft precision alignment system. This is an instrument dedicated to assisting the technician in achieving precise alignment of the shafts of two horizontally or vertically mounted machines. The V180 includes a handheld display unit and two laser units (LUs ). Each LU contains a laser transmitter and a high quality laser detector. The laser detectors measure the travel of the laser beams as the shafts are rotated. The distance the beams travel across the detectors provides the data required for the V180 to calculate and display alignment values. The Vibralign V180 is designed to replicate the reverse dial indicator method of alignment. In this method the alignment of two shafts is expressed in two measurements, angularity and offset (or parallel). Unlike dial indicators, the V180 requires no graphing or calculating of values. All the operator has to do is input three dimensions and then take three readings by rotating the laser detectors to the 9 o'clock, 3 o'clock, and 12 o' clock positions. The V180 precisely measures the angularity and offset at the couplings in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The V180 then displays these values on the coupling Values Screens – one for the vertical plane and one for the horizontal plane. After checking and possible readjusting you now have a perfect alignment. This alignment system originally cost over $4000 and I used it just for alignment training courses that I had taught for many years. I never used this instrument in a dirty environment, just classrooms, so there is no grease and grim on this system.
