Tektronix Primer Sampling Techniques 10/85 This is an original 19 page application note written by Gary Mott of the Laboratory Instruments Division. The Tektronix Literature number is 42W-5969. From the introduction on page 5, “This primer provides a basic understanding of sampling principles as used in signal acquisition for scope measurements. It will clarify a sometimes difficult to understand topic. The objective of the primer is make you feel comfortable with the use of sampling techniques and to have confidence in the answers your oscilloscope gives you when sampling high frequency signals. The primer contains a description of why sampling techniques are useful. It details the basic sampling concept, including a description of the ways sampling is used. A block diagram description of a typical sampling system is included to provide a better understand of the inner workings of a sampling scope. These are also section in the primer that describe sampling compared to digital storage, using the 7854 Waveform Processing Oscilloscope to make sampling measurements.” There are 22 diagrams and photographs, all in black and white. Some of the products shown or discussed are the 7S11/7T11A, 7S12 TDR Sampler, and the 7S14 Dual Trace Delayed Sweep Sampler. Most of the photographs were taken of a 7603 CRT, although there are some in the 7854 mainframe. Some of the uses discussed are Delay and Transit Time Measurements, Phase Measurements, Rise Time Measurements, TDR (Time Domain Reflectometry) and Digital Communications. (All on one page—just a paragraph or two.) I'll send this out via USPS First Class Mail for $2.50.
