Before I retired, I was an Application Engineer for a semiconductor company and I spent 2/3s of my time in the field.  This was the test equipment I brought with me.  It is a USB oscilloscope and signal generator that easily fit in my computer bag and was never damaged no matter how cruel the baggage handlers were.  It has: - 20 MS/s dual channel 10 - bit oscilloscope - 2 MHz DDS arbitrary waveform generator - Eight channel digital I/O It is USB powered so no ac adaptor is required.  Free software to control it is available for you Windows, Linux, or Mac.  (syscompdesign).  A screen shot of the interface is shown.  It is of a sine wave feeding the two channels of the oscilloscope.  Also come with three test leads and one USB cable.  Free manuals are also downloadable from the same website.  New it sells for $189.  This would be ideal for the hobbyist or the student that needs to view signals outside of lab hours.  Also great for professionals that need a small portable test system that travels well.
