The insert is thick felt wrapped around 1/2" foam. To hold items closer to the glass, simply place some cardboard or wood under the insert. If you need more space, unwrap the felt from around the foam and trim to fit the bottom of the case. Brass hinges and latch. Bottom of case is MDF as shown in the last picture.
