Own a piece of history! When Microsoft originally created the SPOT Watches back in 2003, data was sent to the wristwatches from FM radio towers in over 125 North American cities.  This one-way connection was called DirectBand and the service was called MSN Direct. The SigMon 100 (a.k.a. StatMon 100) was used to monitor that the DirectBand transmissions were working properly in these cities.  The SigMon 100 uses an FM antenna to listen to the airwaves and send reports back to data center servers over the Internet.  It was build by A Dot Corporation. Microsoft turned off DirectBand and ceased transmissions on Jan 1st, 2012.  However, it is still possible that the DirectBand technology could be re-activated by Microsoft, sold to another company to operate, or be released to the public domain. Tested! Each Sigmon 100 has been tested the following ways: Powers up and the LEDs light up as expected Serial port has been used to configure the device Serial Number on sticker matches the serial in the firmware Can open an Internet connection to a test server (data unconfirmed, protocol unknown) Can accept an Internet connection (data unconfirmed, protocol unknown) Since DirectBand's FM transmissions have been turned off, testing of the antenna functionality was not possible.  The Internet connection protocols are not known and the official data center servers have been turned off.  Thus, only the device's ability to initially create or accept a connection was tested; not whether the device was sending or receiving data properly.
