He also wrote the included detailed installation instructions and photographed the accompanying images to help guide you during replacement. Remember that no matter what anyone claims, the sad truth is that ALL master disposal belts are under attack from the first moment they come into contact with the chemicals in duplicator inks. Once that very first master is removed, belts become smeared with ink which exposes them to a host of solvents that begin to eat away at them. With every master disposal cycle, each belt is again exposed to a fresh smear of nasty solvents! It's unavoidable and once a belt has been exposed to these chemicals, even if the machine is unused or carefully stored away, the solvents and harsh chemicals already covering the belts eats away at their integrity. After-market inks, although they print just fine, usually include even more powerful solvents in heavier concentrations than OEM inks and tend to eat up belts. So it makes sense that belts smeared with harsh solvents will deteriorate over time, with or without use. Unfortunately as expensive as OEM belts are, due to the type of material they’re made of, they tend to deteriorate rather quickly. Choose your own replacement path... 1 - Quick & Dirty Method: If you have enough experience and are good at this kind of manual work, if you’re familiar with disassembling & reassembling complex equipment and choose not to clean the attending parts, then just replacing the belts themselves can be accomplished in about 20+ minutes or so, using nothing more than a small flat screwdriver. But be forewarned! If you’re not highly skilled, doing any job in this quick & dirty way can all too easily cause you more problems than you started with! So what’s the big deal about cleaning? Why would cleaning the master disposal components be important anyway? And should I really bother with all that extra messy work right now since I just want the darn thing to work again? Well the choice is yours of course! But remember this, the condition of each component in the master removal/disposal area impacts upon proper master removal and handling. The cleaner they are the longer your equipment will continue to provide the kind of trouble-free service every duplicator owner is looking for. And the thing is, all those components you'll clean need to come apart in order to replace the belts anyway! So really, it just makes good sense to keep your duplicator running trouble free longer, with what really amounts to only a few minutes extra while preforming a tiny bit of preventative maintenance. And it's so easily to do while you have everything apart anyway. As you already know, ink gets everywhere in the master disposal area and dries to a sticky, gooey consistency that’s just waiting to gum up the works and cause you more problems at the first opportunity. So it's a no-brainier to take a few extra minutes and clean those now accessible parts which will eventually cause problems with ink buildup and jams anyway. The plain fact is, sooner or later each area you clean will cause you problems that much sooner, unless you address them now. Besides, clean machines always seems to work better, and isn’t that what you really want? And please, don’t be taken in by blanket ‘guarantees’ for belts that only serve to inflate the selling price.
