Affordable Binding Equipment "Quality and Integrity have no fear of time." "Affordable" doesn't mean cheaply made, just quality made simply. This is a new small simple bookpress (or a flower press!) that I build (I am a self employed cabinetmaker 33 years in the trade). It is made from cabinet grade plywood, covered with a waterproof high pressure plastic laminate covering (like that used on kitchen countertops). The laminate makes the surfaces easy to clean and they won't warp or become rough from moisture. This also provides a flat surface that will insure your covers have no telegraphed wood grain, unlike those presses that are made from solid wood or plywood. Edges are sanded and sealed with paste wax. NOTE: The color of the laminate may be different than the picture as I use excess stock from my cabinet shop. The inside dim. are: Front to back 6" Side to side between bolts 8-1/4"" Daylight 4" The bolts are 3/8" with wingnuts and run through copper bushings in the upper platen so the upper platen moves up and down freely, the bolt not binding on the plywood grain in the hole. This press does not include the springs to hold up the upper platen as these would not work with very thin small books. The vertical boards used for shipping can be used to hold up the upper platten while placing the book in the press. You can't get much simpler than this. Nice and portable for classes and demonstrations! I can make larger or smaller sizes if you are interested.
