These Minco Kapton Thermofoil Heaters heat up and cool down rapidly. We have used the ones we saved for our labs at 8-12 VDC continuously. These Minco Kapton Heaters get hot at 12VDC. We have temporarily used them at up to 20VDC, where they get very hot. We never go above 20VDC, and to date we have never burned one out. The highest voltage you should use with these Minco Kapton Heaters depend upon how much heat you want to apply, ambient temperatures, what materials they are heating, the thickness and size of the materials, whether or not they are on the top or bottom of the materials or sandwiched between them, and how well they contact the materials. You may have to experimentally determine your optimum voltage. As a general rule, the faster the heated material conducts heat away from the Minco Heaters (thermal transfer heatsink quality of the material and contact), the higher you can set your voltage. We have found that one Minco Heater is enough to keep a cup of coffee warm (placed underneath an aluminum plate holding the cup) when ambient temperature is 50 degrees F.
