HYDRAULIC TRACING & ORNAMENTAL TURNING* DVD You'll receive: ONE DVD (prox 80 minutes run time) ONE 16 pg INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDE * As titled, the term "...ORNAMENTAL Turning" seems to have confused some into thinking that this DVD was produced for the VERY small, fine work done by kings and nobility on very small items (like snuff boxes) as pioneered by Holtzapffel & Company in the 1800's. While that would be technically accurate, my intention was to highlight the opportunities available to woodturners with "COMPLEX Turning". And THAT term is also confusing, but is understood in the turning trade as almost any embellishment (such as flutes, spiral details, barley twists, rope twists, reeding, ribbon work, reciprocal work, etc.) applied to a "SIMPLE Turning"; simple meaning any un-embellished wood lathe turning: a turned wooden baluster is considered a simple turning, while a turned, AND FLUTED baluster is considered complex turning. I'm afraid that confusion has mis-directed some serious woodturners away from this product, and so I've re-named this listing: HYDRAULIC TRACING AND WOOD TURNING. THIS WAS PRODUCED IN EARLY 1995 FOR A PRESENTATION AT THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF WOODTURNERS SYMPOSIUM AT SACRAMENTO, CA. This set (Booklet/Guide and DVD) is designed to be helpful to those of us that turn wood on a lathe, either as a hobby/pastime or professionally, that want to take it to the next (affordable!) level. I consider myself a professional woodturner since I've been turning wood since 1971, and as a sole source of income since 1987. . . making a comfortable income and doing what I enjoy in the process. Over the years I've worked out how to make the moves necessary to compete; with this DVD and booklet I'm sharing some of what I've been learning. One of the joys of my doing complex turning is seeing a whole lot of the spectacular work of some of the top woodturners in the business. They bring their great, 'finished' work to me, and I enhance it with flutes, spirals, etc. I've been dubbed "a woodturners' woodturner" for that reason but I also create complex (as well as just 'simple') turnings from milled, glued, etc. stock for regular customers. Wouldn't it be nice if, as a woodturner you could run two, even three lathes at a time? If you could do that you'd be doubling or even tripling your earning capability. I do that every day. Rarely will I run less than two lathes at a time, and while they're making product I'm often running other machinery such as bandsaw, drill press, bag sander etc., doing the peripheral work that turning often requires. Hydraulic tracer employment and max automatic actuators, limit switches, as well as use of air solenoid switching helps all along the way. And just for added bells and whistles I have color lighted process switches on the machinery control panels so I can oversee the operations from across the shop.
