You can easily adjust these black pieces with the thumbscrew and place them in the top and bottom corner of your platen or diagonal corners. By loosening the lock nuts on the platen and turning the screw until one side of the platen is evenly adjusted against the two black cylinders, you get an even impression. Repeat the process on the other side, making sure to recheck the first side. The best part? You don't need ink, chase, or packing on the press to use the gauge.
