DMSO is a colorless liquid with a slight solvent odor, similar to garlic. 2. DMSO is readily absorbed through skin, and enhances the rate of skin absorption of skin permeable substances. 3. DMSO is irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin. 4. DMSO solidifies or freezes at about 68 degrees Fahrenheit. 5. Repeated application of DMSO to the skin results in slight irritation. 6. High vapor concentrations of DMSO may cause drowsiness. DMSO is a colorless liquid solvent with a slight odor that is similar to garlic. The odor is a characteristic of DMSO and a liquid without that characteristic odor is not pure DMSO. Without the odor it does not have the same chemical makeup commonly and historically known as DMSO. Removing the element causing the odor changes the chemical makeup rendering the liquid to nothing more than a placebo. A liquid without the odor could be anything. When working with DMSO precautions should be observed. Wear latex or similar gloves. Suntan lotions and insect repellants should be washed off prior to working with DMSO in case of an accidental spill on that area of the skin. Products known to be safe or beneficial to the body, such as Aloe Vera may not have to be removed, unless the area has become dirty.
