Glove heat shield The Heavy Duty Defend-o-Finger has a double thickness material, 10mm+ wider area for more shielding, double layers, slightly longer and larger diameter for heavier gloves (but works great with light TIG or rigging gloves too (two finger use possible with thin gloves and smaller hands). The HD Defendos are more ridged, but still retain enough flex to bend when needed and be comfortable (note: They are designed to be used at hot temps and they become more flexible similar to the standard while operating in the higher temps). They also are able to stretch and return to normal as required. 'Defend O Finger' allows you to use your hand or finger to rest against your hot work piece. It does this by insulating you from the heat source, by separating you with layers of heat resistant weaved material. It simply slips over your gloved finger like an elasticated sock. If you're like me, you need to rest/steady your hand against something to produce a good looking weld (otherwise I am like uncle Arthur, shaking and waving around). That's easy to do if your doing a small butt weld on a table, but anything more and your cooking your hand or fingers trying to rest them on your hot work piece/table and forget about welding pipe, you have to free hand that stuff. Furthermore, there is no way you can do a second pass resting your hand on the pipe...if your gloves aren't burning, your skin is. Defend O Finger is Certified heat resistant to 650+ C / 1200 F+ (Cherry red steel)(Flame temp in photo is 1500 C! and although its not rated for this it handled the heat for 10 minutes no problem with only low heat reaching the glove). Defendos are non-conductive (so no risk of Arc'ing or heat transfer). It won't burn or go brittle. It is also abrasion and cut resistant. Petrol and engine chemical resistant (not effected by acetone residue ). The Defend O Finger allows you to rest your hand/finger while welding against even cherry red steel without burning. This Makes it a great and inexpensive addition to your toolbox, whether you are a professional or a home handy man. Recommended for TIG, MIG, ARC, GAS welding or for anything where you need to lean on heated surfaces for short/medium periods.
