BECK LONDON  Binomax 9690 Greenough Field Portable  Stereo Microscope (Stereomicroscope)  with Two Pairs of Dual Matched Eyepieces:  Low Power & High Power and Two Stage Plates: Clear and Semi-opaque ________________________ It is supplied, as are all Greenough stereomicroscopes, with dual Porro Prisms. The Greenough microscope is named after its American inventor Horatio Saltonstall Greenough. Its weight, with semi-opaque plate and one pair of eyepieces, makes it easy to carry on a field trip, as it weighs approximately 5 pounds 3 ounces. It is approximately 9-1/4 inches tall in working position. Its magnifications, weight, and size make it suitable for field use.  It has a horseshoe, and relatively large, base about 6-inches at its widest point. It comes with two stage plates. One is clear and the other is frosted. The stage plates are also relatively large, and are approximately 6-1/4 inches in width.  The microscope stand is approximately 7-3/4 inch tall, and the microscope body, with lens about 6-inches high. In use, much of the microscope's body falls below the stand.  The stand allows the microscope to move up and down with a variety of object heights. The wide stage allows it to be used with various widths. The stereomicroscope has a built-in jug handle to make carrying easier.  It is supplied with two pair of dual matched eyepieces, marked high power and low power.  The spacing of the eyepieces is adjustable to accommodate for varying interpupillary distances.  The picture of an image, seen through this microscope is of the eye of Ben Franklin on a US $100 bill. The bill is not included in this sale.  As can be seen in the photographs, the microscope is in nice cosmetic condition.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   (c) RJK 2014 Authorized ______________________________ The London Based Manufacurer: Beck Beck has a microscope heritage that can be traced back to Victorian times. Richard Beck's Uncle was J. J. Lister, the designer of the Lister Limb, an alternative to the bar limb, for holding a microscope's body to an instrument's base. Beck became a partner of James Smith's in 1847, leading to the firm re-designation as "Smith and Beck". Richard Beck was joined by his brother Joseph Beck in 1851, forming the famous, and important, microscope-manufacturing firm of "Smith, Beck & Beck". The firm made the first binocular body in England, c. 1853, based on the c. 1851 designs of US Prof. J. A. Riddell (Turner, 1981). __________                                 No need for concern about stock picture matching the item for sale.  PHOTOGRAPH OF THE ACTUAL ITEM FOR SALE   These pictures are part of this listing, and we hope they can answer most questions.  All items included in this sale are shown.
