Antique Chocolate candy making tinned steel melter or insert from a type of double boiler - this listing is for the insert only - i have inlcuded pictures of a complete one that i have also - but please note that the three pictures that have the two pieces together in them are just so you can see what it went to - again - this is only the insert. that being said - i think this insert would make a great start to a medicine chest, little cabinet - even a display case or a shadow box - it really is fantastic!! these both came from a woman whose great aunt who was 88 when she passed away 4 years ago - when that woman was young she and her husband ran a candy store / soda fountain. these were from the store in her attic - the niece could not find the base to this one. overall the insert measures 21 1/2" X 18 X 7" Tall or thick. it's a little rounded on the bottom - where the other one i have is not. i was told they put the melted chocolate in this with hot water in the base - and that made the chocolate stay melted so they could put it in molds and stuff. i'm sure there's a name for these - i have searched and searched and can't find one like it - so by all means if you know what they are - feel free to let me know - i'm just going based on what i was told. it's heavy - weighing almost 7 pounds. would make a beautiful planter as well, just so many uses for it! please remember - this listing is for just the insert! the pictures of the complete are just for information purposes!!
