Moreover, allyl sulfinates destroy others pathogenic microorganisms also, such as Mycoplasma sp., fungi (Candida sp., Trichophyton sp., Microsporum sp., Cryptococcus sp.) and parasites (Cryptosporidium parvum, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia or Leishmania sp.). Allyl sulfinates do not destroy the natural gut microflora, such as Lactobacillus sp. The mechanism of selective action results from the fact that allyl sulfinates do not destroy the cell nuclei of pathogenic microorganisms but they act on cell walls. Pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms cell walls differ in their structure. The same mechanism explain why the microorganisms have not become immune to allyl sulfinates for thousands of years. Allyl sulfinates destroy cell walls of pathogenic microorganisms and inhibit the action of cell enzymes. The cell destruction results from the lysis principle – the cell contents are extracted to the surroundings area.
