Figure 1-1 illustrates a typical ATS100 positioning stage. The ATS100 series includes stages with travel distances ranging 50 to 200 mm (2 to 8 in). Each stage features an extremely low profile and an ideal balance of accuracy, resolution, and load bearing characteristics. The series’ advanced performance is the result of combining a one–piece base with a 2 mm–lead, precision–ground, preloaded ball screw and a linear motion guide (LMG) bearing system. The 2 mm lead ball screw and LMG are standard features on all stages. The fine-pitched, precision-ground, preloaded ball screw ensures superior positioning resolution and accuracy while the LMG bearing system provides stiffness, good load carrying capabilities, and continuous load support over the entire range of travel. The one-piece base, machined from extruded aluminum, adds stiffness and stability. Other standard design features include high quality, preloaded, duplex screw bearings to reduce axial play, integral bellows way covers to keep contamination out of the internal mechanism, and integral wipers on the table nut and bearing trucks to further reduce dirt infiltration. Highly accurate optical limit switches and mechanical end stops to protect the stage table from over-travel are also standard.
