You're bidding on an Advantest Q8344A Optical Spectrum Analyzer! The Q8344A uses a Fourier spectrum analysis approach based on a Michelson interferometer. This allows the Q8344A to measure optical coherence that cannot be obtained directly using diffraction-type optical spectrum analyzers with monochromator based measurement. This analyzer has a measurement range of 350nm~1750 nm and features a built-in He-Ne laser that functions as the wavelength reference, ensures the wavelength measurement accuracy is maintained within A‚A±0.1 nm (at 1.3 um), and eliminates the need for calibration This instrument is exceptionally well suited to the measurement of coherence length of LD and LED optical sources operated in continuous wave mode only, and it also very effective for the evaluation of laser diodes used in optical data storage equipment, fiber optic gyroscopes, and related applications. This analyzer was recently decommissioned from a university research lab, and it is in very nice condition. The CRT is clear and bright, and the buttons, controls and connectors are in good condition and actuate smoothly and firmly. The unit is fully functional, but I had it checked by an ISO certified calibration lab and the following defects were reported: 1. At 850nm the power reading is -25db with -8db applied. 2. The reading is frequency modulating @ < 50nm span. The unofficial assessment of the technician was that the detection electronics probably need servicing in order to correct the above noted problems, although it may be fine for some applications I have priced the unit low to allow for potential service costs.
