I purchased my stock directly from Greenfirefarms.com This bloodline was imported from Europe. (ultra rare) I have 2 roosters over 7 hens. Sulmtalers are a colorful and appealing breed that has proven to be extremely robust and easy to sex as chicks. History of the Sulmtaler The Sulmtaler originated in the Styrian region of Austria. It is a rare, dual-purpose crested breed of chicken that dates back to the 14th century. The meat of the Sulmtaler was preferred for its flavorful taste, and by the end of the 19th century it was considered a delicacy in French and Austrian courts. It was the Sulmtaler that was served at Napoleon’s coronation. Following many appearances upon the aristocratic tables of Europe, it earned the nickname, “Imperial Chicken”. While it is highly regarded as a meat bird, the Sulmtaler is a good egg producer, laying on average between 150-200, cream colored eggs each year. For many years, the ability to provide substantial meat as well as eggs, made the Sulmtaler an important source of sustenance for Austrians. About a century ago a concerted effort was made to standardize the breed and exploit its strengths for agricultural production. The best specimens were gathered from this wine-growing region and the name “Sulmtaler” was given to the chickens produced under this more structured breeding program. The name derives from the  remote and isolated Sulm valley in Austria, a fertile place bounded by mountain ranges and inhabited long ago by wandering tribes of prehistoric hunters. By 1915, the breed was well known in the area and admired for its fine qualities. Two world wars followed, and the Sulmtaler was all but lost in the chaos. However, a few dedicated hobbyists kept small Sulmtaler flocks, and the breed was saved. Fertility in my eggs is very good and I hatch on a regular schedule. I can't guarantee hatching rates because of shipping and handling after it leaves my control. I package my eggs well, and will try my best to send extras. I do not wash the eggs because it destroys the protective barrier on the eggs. The hens puts a protective barrier on the egg to keep bacteria out which keeps the chick alive in the egg.   Eggs are collected the morning of and 1 day before they are shipped. I will provide a tracking number. Please have your incubator set up and running for 24 hours before the eggs arrive, so the temperature and humidity level will stabilize. If you don't have one, I  recommend the hova-bator from GQF with an automatic egg turner. Please pay promptly because live eggs are time sensitive and need to be shipped fresh and as soon as possible. PLEASE MAKE PAYMENT AT END OF AUCTION. IF YOU WANT YOUR PHONE NUMBER PLACED ON PACKAGE IN CASE OF DELIVERY PROBLEMS WITH POST OFFICE, YOU CAN EMAIL IT TO ME. Shipping only to the lower 48 states. Will not ship to Alaska, Porto Rico, Hawaii or other countries. THANKS YOU FOR LOOKING AND HAVE A GREAT DAY!
