(10) STEEL 3/8"-16 HAT NUTS / FLANGED NUTS T-NUTS / TEE NUTS / CAP NUTS / SERRATED NUTS New old stock (NOS). 3/8"-16 TPI Flange Nuts / Hat Nuts / Cap Nuts / T-Nuts / Tee Nuts / Serrated Nuts - goes by many names. These steel flanged nuts are really great for multiple uses. First, they eliminate the need for obtaining and placing separate lock washers for all kinds of work - saving you time and money. Second, you can countersink a wood, plastic or metal handle or other object, and weld/solder/epoxy the hat nut into the recess, then (after setting) screw in whatever attachments or home made tools you wish to create. Third, these hat nuts can be modified to repair clamps missing their rotational cup at the end of the threaded clamp shaft. The most common way clamps break is the rotational cup mangles or breaks off and all is left is a naked ball, usually resulting in tossing clamp - loss of money. These hat nuts can be easily used to replace the missing clamp cup to repair a broken clamp. What we do to save clamps with broken or missing cups - even improve clamps - is we countersink the underside of the hat nut with about a 1/2" dia. bit to a recess edge depth of about 1/8" (upside down, hat nuts are easily secured in a vise). If the clamp shaft ball is 1/4" - 5/16" dia., it will fit nicely through the nut's 3/8" threaded hole. If the shaft ball is greater than about 5/16" dia., upto about 7/16" dia., we ream or drill out the rest of the hat nut and/or grind off the excess ball dia. We then grind the ball end flat. We slip the hat nut, serrated end down, over the flattened shaft ball. If the shaft dia. is less than 3/8", we weld/solder/epoxy a washer at the neck top of the shaft ball before placing on the hat nut On to stop the hat nut from sliding onto the upper shaft. Once the hat nut is On, we place a small washer that fits inside the hat nut drilled-out recess, and weld/solder/epoxy washer to the flattened bottom of the of the shaft ball, being careful not to also spill onto the hat nut so it will rotate. After setting, you now have a new heavy-duty rotational cup on your clamp - a cup that is likely superior to the clamp's original cup. If the diameter of the flanged end of nut is too small or you don't like steel serrations contacting held objects, you can easily weld/solder/epoxy a washer onto the nut bottom.
